Thalassotherapy facilities on the Western Mediterranean coast of Turkey and its application on locomotor system disorders

Abstract: Mehmet I. ARMAN Health Resort Medicine and Thalassotherapy Education Research and Application Center of Akdeniz University Antalya Turkey The Western Mediterranean Coast of Turkey (Turkish Riviera) extends mainly along the borders of Antalya province where culture and nature (sea mountains) tourism is developed and outdoor activities are provided during all seasons of the year. Traditionally thalassotherapy practice is encountered here. Thalassotherapy facilities in modern institutions are now becoming a part of the main local touristic service and are offered to people from all over the world. While novel facilities related to thalassotherapy are being created we take this subject into account regarding the diseases of locomotor system. We are trying to make benefits for the patients with the rheumatic diseases or the other disorders of locomotor system from those feasibilities of thalassotherapy and the other ecological therapy modalities and carrying out efforts to create a theoretical approach for a local concept formation concerning this topic. Theoretical background and approach on this subject will be discussed in this paper. wt
