Suicidal behaviour 1: a search for methods in an ecosystemic paradigm |
Abstract: Suicidal behaviour is researched using an ecosystemic paradigm; ie. using differing levels of interpretation of the data (individual, relational, familial and social). Three stages of research are described; a preliminary stage of hypothesis Generation and model building using the published literature, a second stage where emerging hypotheses are tested in interactive contexts; and a third stage where hypotheses are refined and tested in a particular context. This research method stays close to clinical practice and is a useful tool for formulating clinical trials. It is also a useful conceptual tool for the clinical appraisal of chronic problems.
