Abstract: Apolipoproteins are the protein components of the body's fats that control transport and other functions; the amount of these proteins present determines, to a great extent, the development of a case of arteriosclerosis. In a one-year progress study in 75 patients with diabetic retinopathy, peripheral AOD, arthroses, venous circulatory disturbances, migraines and chronic inflammatory processes, the behaviour of the important apolipoproteins A (essential element in the protective cholesterol HDLC) and B (essential element in the dangerous LDLC) as well as of total cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, creatinine levels, thrombocyte aggregability and fibrogen values, along with other laboratory values and clinical developments, was recorded and evaluated during a program of ultraviolet radiation treatment of the blood with 6 to 10 treatments (1 ml of blood per kg in 5 minutes without additional oxygen foaming) in 3 to 5 weeks and individual treatments at 4-to-8-week intervals over a year. The criteria for improvement included reduced cholesterol levels, neutral fats, LDLC, thrombocyte aggregability and fibrogen levels as well as increased HDLC levels, apo-A and active recalcification time. Apo-A is a good criterion for the efficacy of ultraviolet radiation treatment.
