Le ritualisme en situation de conflit. (Ritualism in conflictual situations.)

Abstract: Discusses, from a psychoanalytic perspective, what the author calls profane rituals in terms of certain phenomena observable among contemporary adolescents in conflict with society as a whole as well as with their families. The actualization dimension allows the presence of represented material in a mode similar to that of transference, in which the patient experiences a parental figure as actually present. Both rite and transference are inseparable from the repetition process, serving, perhaps alternately, Eros and Thanatos, combining order and chaos. Contradiction and conflict underlie the artistic manifestations of the contemporary youth culture, including various types of music from rock to rap, from punk to hip-hop. The features common to these artistic and ludic youth movements are examined.
