Abstract: This case study focuses on a man who exhibits learning difficulties and disturbed behaviour. It attempts to give an account of the deprivation that he has had to live with over many years, and how he manages to cope with his isolation, but yet allows a few rays of sunshine into his otherwise dark existence. During three years of music therapy, John has started to build his trust in people, a feat in which he has shown great courage and determination.
