Abstract: This paper identifies the interactive process between music (the stimulus), the client and therapist, which constitute healing in music therapy. Attributes of a motivated and willing client will be explored as well as the attitude and personal characteristics of the therapist. The salient features of music as a powerfull medium for healing will also be examined. The issue of disillusionment or "burn -out" in helping professionals will be discussed, with several strategies outlined to cope with the progressive stages of "burn-out".
