Music therapy and alcoholism: II. Treatment services |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy Perspectives. 1988; 5: 65-68.
Abstract: Discusses pertinent music therapy services for clients with alcoholism and suggests the following goals be considered by the music therapist: group identity and cohesiveness, self-awareness, stress reduction, and the expression of feelings and emotions. It is contended that alcoholism is a bio-psycho-social addiction that requires a multifaceted interdisciplinary approach within which music therapists can offer specific services and assist the client with particular needs. It is suggested that to accomplish this, music therapists will need to remain current with the ever-expanding knowledge-base related to alcoholism.
