Abstract: One of the pioneers of music therapy is the music therapist and music educator Professor Dr. Paul Friedrich Scherber. As early as the 20s he practised group and individual music therapy. Apart from work on the eigentone and improvisation on elementary music instruments (such as homemade and Orff instruments), he made particuler use of the recorder in his music therapy. Scherber reported on his research work and his experiences in this field in lectures on topics such as "The Eigentone in Diagnostics and Therapy" and "Music as Therapy and Psychagogy".
