Discovery and Development of Talent with Reference to Music Therapy Aspects |
Journal/Book: Musiktherapeutische Umschau. 1986; 7: STUTTGART. G. Fischer Verlag. 219-234.
Abstract: The impetus to search for a workable theoretical concept came from practical work with pre-school age children. Observation during classes confirmed the assumption that musical talent is not only characterised by evidence of musicality as such, and that it is not musicality alone that makes it possible to predict the success of instrumental training. Psychological characteristics, social behaviour and social surroundings play an essential part. It follows from this that instruction of this age group should influence not only the musical but also the psychological and social aspects of the personality, since the development of musical talent in all its diversity is closely linked with personality development in general. The application of action principles and procedures of music therapy can facilitate the task of developing the whole personality with a view to ensuring trouble-free musical development.
