Hat die klassische Schulmedizin ausgedient?
Abstract: The present article gives a review an a study, where patients were compared, who prefer a scientific physician, a naturopathically orientated physician, or a non-medical practitioner. There are statistically significant differences between patients of the alternative therapist and patients of the scientific-medical therapist with regard to the expectations towards the therapist. It has to be assumed, that in the future the demand will grow for such therapists, who are able to share the desire for a holistic concept of health and disease of their patients and who can react adequately to such an expectation. In this context holism means, that the mental and spiritual concerns in the therapeutic setting as well as somatic disturbances are paid attention to. Physicians, who focus an naturopathy as well as non-medical practitioners rather seem to be in accordance with such a need than physicians, who treat patients more or less exclusively according to traditional medicine.
