Abstract: F. BOURBOUR TEHRAN IRAN Hydrotherapy is a popular modality used by many physiotherapists in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions. When man is immersed in water to the suprasternal notch the hydrostatic pressure gradients are altered and results in a shift of 700 ml of blood from the calves to the cardiothoracic compartment. This increased central blood volume causes a variety of profound physiological changes which may affect the hydrotherapist's treatment. The purpose of my article is to detail the effects of immersion on the cardiovascular renal respiratory and haematological systems. wt
