Abstract: Revascularization operations an closed or stenosed coronaries are among the most frequent operative procedures of heart surgery. In the reperfusion phase, the occurrence of "free radicals" is said to be responsible for a large number of pathophysiological changes. This suggests that antioxidants such as vitamin C should be used. A recent double-blind study supports the thesis that vitamin C attracts "free radicals" and can thus reduce reperfusion damage.
