Abstract: The hypothesis that normal development of oral speech is defined, first, by sufficient level of auditory memory, secondly, by opportunities of the child to operate with the long proceeding acoustic events in prosodic speech was experimentally verified. 105 school children from the first form with normal mental development as well as 60 children of the same age with the clinical diagnosis of speech disorders, whose level of nonverbal intellect was near the lower level of the norm participated in the study. Children carried out identical reflex-metrical tasks of the tests of achievement (associative experiment and color matrixes of D. Raven). In the first, basic similarity of process of reflection of time in normal children and adult native speakers in Russian was shown. In the second, significant differences of the characteristics of performance of all tasks by children with norm and pathology of speech functioning were revealed.
