Immediate and ultimate functions of physical activity play |

Abstract: Play has been difficult to define because it occurs as an aspect of many activities rather than being limited to a specific kind of activity; thus it rarely occurs in isolation. Classic theorists such as Piaget and Vygotsky emphasize representational play as play in its purist form, but both the immediate and ultimate functions of play can be discerned in the simplest physical activity play.
