Abstract: The terms quality, quality assessment and quality management are of increasing importance in the health care system. Natural medicine and unconventional medicine like acupuncture are more and more integrated in this process. In the future of the health care system only quality assessed benefit are going to be paid by health care insurance. Therefore it is necessary to define concepts and methods of the process of quality assessment.Acupuncture itself is a technique originating in Asia, from countries that have a cultural background with a fundamentally different concept of disease and therapy. Acupuncture is being used empirically in the - treatment of pain; clinical studies have been published. Therefore it is necessary. to establish suitable methods for the integration of acupuncture in the process of quality assessment.
