Abstract: There has been a continuous evolution in the diagnosis and management of acoustic neuromas. With the development of microsurgical techniques, facial nerve preservation became a realistic goal, and more recently, hearing preservation has been stressed. There have also been advances in the management of patients with neurofibromatosis type 2. Finally, the nonsurgical management of acoustic neuromas has received increasing attention. The authors discuss each of these refinements and alternative techniques in the management of acoustic neuromas.
