Abstract: The case of a young woman soldier with perinatal hearing impairment who developed auditory hallucinations during her basic military training is described. The hallucinatory experience was not accompanied by gross psychopathology. The synergistic effect of hearing impairment and stress may play a role in generating hallucinations.
