Ein Überblick "Qualitativen Forschung" in den USA

Abstract: This article begins with identifying two senses in which the term "qualitative research" is often used: First, it is sometimes used to describe research in the social sciences that is differentiated from quantitative research merely by the choice of data the researcher uses and the way this data is treated; the second sense refers to an entire area of inquiry with its own epistemological and methodological foundation and it is this thread of developement pursued in this article. The historical role of various organisations, institutions and informal professional communities in developing this type of research is described.
