Grenzen der medizinischen Ursachenforschung als Folge des monokausalen Denkens |
Abstract: The author and his team criticise the monocausal approach generally adopted in medical research as being insufficient and develop a systemic approach taking into account complex interrelationship when looking at the causes of chronic diseases. This article outlines the theoretical and methodological background of this approach as well as the results obtained and its impact on future research and practical prevention. In numerous research reports and papers published in cooperation with internationally renowned scientists of different backgrounds, the author has repeatedly shown that certain risk factors interact in a very specific way and that research into this interaction is no less important than research into ever more risk factors. It is argued that once the specific interactions are known, it will be possible to develop successful preventive strategies and to formulate new objects of research, for instance regarding the interrelationship between the genetic tendency within a given family to develop cancer and the functioning of the central nervous system. The research presented here clearly suggests that both one's own behaviour and selfregulatory forces have a strong impact on health and disease; therapeutic methods that can help stimulate self-regulation are developed.
