Verblindung in klinischen Homöopathie-Studien? |

Abstract: The problem of blinding in randomized controlled clinical trials in homoeopathic research i5 discussed. It is maintained that due to the specific therapeutic regimen of homoeopathy, the blinding of doctors leads to insecurity, which in turn enhances the probability of false-positive and false-negative results. Thus the ability of this design to clearly discern placebo and verum effects gets blurred. This in turn reduces external validity considerably. Therefore, an alternative is proposed: a non-blind, three-legged, randomized controlled comparison of therapies: One group receives purely homoeopathic therapy without any blinding. Another group receives the standard medical therapy only. A third group receives the standard medical therapy plus a homoeopathic case-taking interview. This combination allows for a comparison of therapeutic efficacy of homoeopathy as compared to standard therapy, and it allows for an assessment of the isolated effect of the homoeopathic drug.
