"You are singing beautifully": Music therapy and the debridement bath |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1995; 22: 53-55.
Abstract: Describes the techniques used by a music therapist in the treatment of a 12-yr-old male undergoing debridement procedures for severe burns. The playing of improvised music and 2 familiar songs before and during the bath produced positive imagery, induced relaxation, and facilitated coping. Description and reflection are used by the music therapist to communicate the event as a significant application of music therapy for children with burns. The development of music therapy as a resource for health care teams who are dealing with the needs of children in pain is recommended.
