Abstract: Purpose: It has been revealed to some extent through studies on non-verbal behavior and studies in the field of phonetics and linguistics that voice is closely related to emotion, personality, caharacter, affective behavior, and diaseases. Thus, considering voice, especially voice print, to be a general indication of body and mind function in the individual level, we evaluated the relationship between voice print and individual attributed, that is, physical and mental characteristics from the point of view of psychosomatic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine as the holistic medicine. Methods: Subjects were 49 patients with psychological factors involving in the onset and course of the disease. Phonetic analysis methode consisted of analysis of vowel sound by sound-spectography to determine the characteristic phonetical patterns observed commonly in each diagnostic group. Then the input data on the subjects in both physiological and psychological aspects including sex, age, somatotype, psychological test results, severity of the disease, tendency to alexithymia, and characteristic phonetical pattern was subjected to multivariate analysis using Facom M-880/310. Results: 1. Phonetical analysis revealed unique voice prints for each group of disease and diagnostic group of alexithymia. 2. Discriminant analysis using diagnosis as a dependent variable and phonetical characters as independent variables could produce the corrrect diagnosis at the probability of 85.7%. 3. Factor analysis revealed four latent factors. Conclusions: Human Qi (Inner Qi) which is regarded as important in traditional Chinese medicine means the general function of body and mind. Therfore, the voice print can be called Qi-print. Phonetical analysis using multivariate analytical method allows us to some extent to determine character, emotional stress and susceptibility to disease represented in voice, and its application in the field of PNI is expected in the future.
