UV-Strahlung und Ozon:Gefahr durch freie Radikale

Abstract: The danger for health resulting from UV-radiation and ozone has become greater since civilization and pollution of environment. In the last decades worldwide there could be observed a strong increase in cancer of the skin. Also damage of the crystalline lens of the eye is come into question. The incidence of cataract, which is caused by several factors, but also by the raised levels of UV radiation, is increasing. The exogenous noxious effects produce an oxidative stress which can be measured as malondialdehyd (MDA) and which is increased under UV-and or ozone exposition. Antioxidants as vitamin E, C, ß-Carotin and Selen (present as combination in Oxytex®) may reduce the free radical burden associated with sunand ozone exposition by quenching the reaction and thus may have protective effects.
