Abstract: A sudden loss of hearing mostly occurs as a sudden unilateral attack. According to the taught knowledge this is a case of emergeny. At present the therapy is not satisfying since 20 to 25% of the cases can diagnostically not be clarified. Besides the oto-rhino-laryngeal-specific methods of exploration (otoscopic examination, hearing tests, audiogramm etc.) good experience are additionally made with the EAV. For instance, viruses and allergens can in a short time be determined as causal factors. The therapy should be started immediately after the end of the tests. Within 8 days audition will become normal. An ealry beginning of the treatment must further be demanded. The period of observation is 12 years.
