Abstract: Transcranial Doppler sonography (TDS) and transcranial near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) as non-invasive, non-hurting monitoring techniques can give information about the cerebral hemodynamics and the cerebral metabolism at naturopathy. Exempary it could be shown a direct influence of thermo-applications on the cerebral hemodynamics (derebral blood flow velocity - CBFV) and cerebral metabolism (Cytochrome aa3). Cold-packs (application place: thigh) reduce the cerebral metabolism (Cytaa 3) about 6.7% ( p<0,005) in the stimulus-phase, however then in the poststimulus-phase we found a 10.7% (p=0.005) increase of cerebral metabolism, which increases even over the initial lever (overshoodting counter-regulation). The increase (2.7%, p=0.05) of CBFV in the middle cerebri artery (MCA) during cryotherapies reduces gradually after stimulation. At parafango (hot) application the CBFV in the MCA showed an opposite reaction to the cryotherapy: 6.9% (p=0.5) reduction of CBFV between preliminary-phase and stimulation end. An increase of cerebral metabolism with a rise of Cytaa 3 of 8.1% (p=0.05) wa observed during the stimulus-phase.
