The tulip, more a psycho- than a phytomedicine |
Abstract: About 400 years ago the nowadays wellknown garden plant tulip (tulipa gesneriana L.) has become native in middle Europe. From Constantinople her route went via the imperial court in Vienna to the north and finally to the Netherlands. This plant which of course is not a phytomedicine, but because of its beauty can be regarded as a psychomedicine. It has not only an interesting social-political history but also novel-writers and poets, painters and copperplate engravers have taken and do take care of this baroque plant. The tulip is not only an object of the history of arts and culture but is also an allergen which causes dermatoses.
