Abstract: The digestive tract grows old like all the other organs, thanks to the existing reserves, however, no deficiencies are to be expected. The secretory performance decreases, motility troubles can be proved, and also anatomical alterations dependent on age are found without the batient being aware of them. Except for cancer diseases the range of old age illnesses is comparable of that of younger people: Also 65years-old people showing gastrointestinal troubles mainly suffer from functional diseases. Within the multimorbidity or polypragmasia respectively drug side effects or interactions play a not negligible role.
