Abstract: The morphological basis of electroacupuncture (EAV) is the same as described for the classical acupuncture points: a nerve-vessel bundle enclosed in loose mesenchyme which pierces the superficial body fascia. There are, however, regional modifications. A technical model of such an acupuncture point was constructed to test the relationships between the nerve, myelin and mesenchyme. The experimental data show that the functional relationships between the structural elements of an acupuncture point depend essentially on the behaviour of the mesenchyme. Thus the physiological and biochemical conditions of the mesenchyme of the acupuncture point determine the value of the EAV test. The importance of the correct use of the EAV test is discussed and examples of its diagnostic value are given. This experimental procedure can also be used to study the scientific basis of the so-called "Medikamenten-Test".
