Abstract: Presents a case report of a 13-yr-old girl receiving inpatient treatment for artifactual (i.e., self-inflicted) dermatitis. Intrapsychic conflict underlying the self-mutilating behavior are discussed, and the use of art therapy (drawings) and hypnotherapy to help the S integrate ambivalent feelings and achieve insight into her problems is described. In this case, the self-injurious behavior is interpreted as a creative attempt at resolving intrapsychic conflicts. (English abstract)
