Abstract: The insufficiency of today's medicine becomes obvious in the case of functional disturbances and chronic diseases, which increase more and more. A characteristic is, that the sector of the general medicine has been neglected very much from the point of view of science. In order to solve the respective problems, a reformatory innovation of medicine is necessary. Empirical medicine and naturopathy can contribute to this innovation in an important manner.The terms empiric therapeutics, naturopathy and biological medicine are basically defined and other terms like alternative medicine, complementary medicine and others are briefly mentioned.The consequences of the aspects concerning health policy and job policy for the work of the German Society of Physicians for empirical therapeutics are presented.
