Abstract: In this review article a new, orthomolecular program for the extensive therapy of diabetes mellitus is presented.This programm contains not only the application of insulin and a nutrition which is highly adapted to the individual requirements, but in addition a specific supply of orthomolecular nutritional supplements in order to improve the glucose tolerance and to prevent the feared diabetic complications.The antioxidant nutrients as zinc, vitamin E and vitamin C, but also trace elements as chromium, manganese or selenium play an important part.
