Treatment of dementia: Healing through cultural arts |
Journal/Book: Pride Institute Journal of Long Term Home Health Care. 1992; 11: 37-45.
Abstract: As director of an adult day-care program, the author describes her efforts to help clients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) uncover or discover talents and skills buried beneath pain, depression, memory loss, and discouragement. Her programs resulted in behaviorally observable changes reflecting increased self-esteem for participants; more positive feelings toward performers from family members; and shows that were enjoyable for everyone. Discussion topics include staff selection, the power of performance, talent search, programming, the rewards of stimulation, music therapy, and divided programming. (0 ref)
