Magnesiumtherapie bei Herz- und Kreislauferkrankungen

Abstract: Magnesium (Mg) has been used in human therapy long before it was discovered as an essential mineral for animals and man. Extracellularly, Mg exhibits calcium antagonistic effects at smooth muscles - e. g. of coronaries and blood vessels - at the myocardium and at skeletal muscles. Ca/Mg antagonism can be effectively used in human therapy. Magnesium depletion is associated with secondary intracellular electrolyte alterations; under these conditions Mg therapy is of course very effective. Nevertheless it must be noticed that effective Mg therapy is no proof of a pre-existing Mg deficit.Excellent therapeutic effects, especially of Mg infusions in patients with acute myocardial infarction, have convinced cardiologists to study its efficacy within the ISIS-4 programme (Oxford International Studies an Infarct Survival).
