Abstract: It has been shown by EEG-measurements, that with normal doses of application the Kavapyrones show no influence an the neocortex, thus having no sedative effect. Their essential action is directed an the limbic system and the corpus amygdaloideum. Experimental and clinical data accordingly show the beginning of an effect about one hour after oral appliaction. The cerebral availability was established with pure Kavapyrones as well as with a genuine mixture of Kavapyrones. Other papers reported an also show the advantages of using the whole natural! extract. Effects of a chronic toxicity of Kava-preparations were till now only stated retrospectively with members of fringe groups without medical attendance in Northern Australia. The persons investigated had taken doses that were 30 to SO times higher than those used therapeutically in Middle Europe. Patients of the same population groups under regular medical care showed no toxical effects.
