Silymarin bei Hepatopathien. Fibrose-Hemmung unter Praxisbedingungen

Abstract: To determine the efficacy of silymarine in inhibiting fibrotic activity in chronic liver diseases, we performed an open study an 177 patients. Elevated serum levels of the N-terminal propeptide of collagen type III (P III-P) decreased significantly after a 4-week treatment with the standardized extract of the thistle Silybum marianum. P-III-P is a valid and specific marker of the actual activity of intrahepatic fibrogenesis with proven prognostic significance. It is available for routine diagnostics in outpatients.
