Holistic Plan of Treatment for Patients Suffering from Depressions. |
Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1992; 5/3: 73-77.
Abstract: Depressions are a disease with manifold symptoms and etiology. Therefore, there cannot be one generalized plan of treatment for all patients; contrary, the plan of treatment must always be adapted to the individual patient. Here, it is of utmost importance to get to know the patient's expectations and wishes - i. e. his concept of disease - and to integrate them into the therapy. A good patientdoctor-compliance can only come into existence if the treatment embraces the modern standards of science as well as the subjective concepts of the patient. In such a case compliance cannot be solely defined as the ))obedience(( of the patient towards the doctor. In certain intervals the treatment must be reassessed and, if necessary, intensified and optimized. Not only the process of the treatment itself, but also its ending at an adequate point of time requires that the expectations and maybe fears of the patient about what will be after the therapy is ended are taken into consideration.
