Akupunkturbehandlung des Klimaterischen Syndroms

Abstract: Nineteen woman with marked climateric symptoms (mean age: 53.5+/- 2.67 yrs) were given weekly acupuncture treatments for ten weeks. Disposable needles were used. The points needled were: PdM, GV 16, H 3, B 31, St 36 and G 3 for every case; B 10, Sp 6, GV 20, TH 15, GV 13, G 14 and G 20 were added according to the severity of the individual symptoms. The Kupperman Klimax Xcore, a subjective judgement of the symptoms, was administered prior to the onset of treatment, after the fifth treatment and at the end of the ten weeks. The plasma levels of the follicle stimulating hormone, luteotrope hormone and estradiole were determined prior to and at the endo fo the acupuncture therapy period. All patients reported definite improvement of their symptoms. This was confirmed by a statistically highly significant reduction of the Kupperman Klimax Score and an increase in the estradiole plasma levels following the acupuncture therapy. Further possibilitiers for the treatment of climateric symptoms using acupuncture are discussed.
