Drawing assessment and artistic skill |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1991; 18: 347-352.
Abstract: Investigated the effects of drawing skill on measures in which a rating of drawing differentiation is designed to reflect level of psychological development. 59 adult psychiatric patients and 37 adult nonpatients completed the Washington University Sentence Completion Test of Ego Development and the Kinetic Family Drawings technique. Results offer evidence that art training has a significant impact on particular types of drawing analysis and suggest that a certain amount of training is a necessary but not sufficient condition for rendering relatively sophisticated drawings. For those with little art training, artwork is not a valid measure of ego level.
Note: art training; drawing skill as measure of ego development; 15 76 yr old psychiatric patients
