Abstract: Neither physical nor mental handicap necessarily precludes an individual's musical development. Indeed, encouraging musical abilities can have a beneficial effect on the handicap itself, by effecting transfer or by compensating. These effects of transfer or compensation are the starting points for music therapy and rehabilitation. (author)
