Abstract: Since antiquity, magnetic or cosmic forces and their influence on the human body have been postulated, whereby interactions with music are always of central importance. Athanasius Kircher's and Franz Anton Mesmer's ideas underlie the occult form of magnetism as found in Justinus Kerner, whose musical views and their significance for the concept of immanent time are explained. The aftereffects of ideas about magnetism are seen especially in the music therapy of Aleks Pontvik. An overall historic curve in the use of cosmic-magnetic ideas in music therapy can be traced.
