Abstract: The statistical significance of the results of a clinical trial does not necessarily mean that the study is appropriate, meaningful, and conforms to practice. Four independent constituents of the value of a clinical trial are defined: (I) formal correctness (methodological quality), (II) validity, (111) quality of publication, and (IV) meta-aspects. The latter includes reproducibility and publication bias. Only a pre-registration procedure can prevent publication bias.
