Was it the better way? The 1980 Study by Gibson et al. reviewed |
Journal/Book: The Berlin Journal on Research in Homoeopathy. 1991; 1: 124-128.
Abstract: This study was designed to overcome two shortcomings in the 1978 study [2]. Although the study design was completely changed, it was once again possible to incorporate individual medication. The new trial had both a smaller number of patients and a shorter observation period than the previous one. It includes interesting methodological aspects and was clearly and comprehensively presented. The allocation of patients to the treatment groups took place by stratified alternation, a method by which group comparability can, in principle, be achieved. This point is thoroughly discussed here, because the validity of a controlled trial ultimately depends an group comparability. Additional information supplied to the reviewer by the authors helped clarify the allocation procedure, revealing the study as sound an the whole.
