Abstract: In the German language healing can be understood in two ways: an the one hand as process of healing (a wound "heals" whether with or without the action of one who is versed in the healing art), an the other hand as aimed Intervention in the disturbed health of a sick person and which Intervention results in healing in the meaning of restoring health, i.e. actually our predominant task as physicians, but in which we do, unfortunately, much too often not or only insufficiently succeed. Just modern medicine that is in part practised with great scientific and material expense must always again realize the narrow limits that exist for a purely scientific-technical concept of treatment. Finally it still appliesalso to-day in spite of all positive results of modern medicine that true healing - both in the one or the other sense - is every time a lucky chance which bears an inner secret that is not entirely disclosed by an exclusively scientific way of consideration.
