Abstract: With patients suffering from coronary heart disease and angina pectoris the fibrinogen level should, if possible, be determined. An increased fibrinogen concentration influences the flowing-properties of the blood disadvantageously. But it can, through appropriate drug treatment, be made the startingpoint for an improvement of micro- and macrocirculation. Oral application of fenofibrate, heparin-induced extra-corporeal LDL-cholesterol and fibrinogenprecipitation, as well as intermittent urokinase therapy are possibilities for a fibrinogen reduction which can increase perfusion in the ischaemic myocardium measurably. Many of the patients treated in this way can subjectively feel a significant improvement, which also shows for example in a reduced nitrate consumption.
