Abstract: Evaluated the effectiveness of a treatment approach to musical performance anxiety (PA) that combines the use of progressive muscle relaxation, cognitive therapy, and temperature biofeedback training. It was predicted that 12 performance-anxious undergraduate music students receiving this treatment for 6 wks would show greater reduction in PA than 8 wait-list controls. Data from PA measures administered before and after the program supported this prediction. The treatment group also experienced a reduction in trait and test anxiety compared with controls.
