Abstract: A therapy with magnesium can aim at compensating for a deficit which accompanies secondary electrolyte changes; it can also make use of the calcium-antagonistic effects of concentrations of magnesium which are above the norm. Data from animal experiment_s, autopsy rindings, and epidemiologic observations all permitthe predication that magnesium befits a key position in the pathogenesis, therapy, and prophylaxis of angiocardiopathies.Clinical data prove the efficacy of magnesium in case of arrhythmias, rnyocardial infarctions, and variant stenocardias_ During an antihypertensive therapy. magnesium plays more an adjuvant part. There is principally a need for research concerning the question in which extent magnesium salts which are given orally can efficaciously prevent angiocardiopathies.
