A psychoaesthetic perspective on creative arts therapy and training |
Journal/Book: Arts in Psychotherapy. 1988; 15: 95-100.
Abstract: Emphasizes the importance of the psychoaesthetic dimensions of the therapeutic relationship as a pivotal focus in working through intrapsychic issues. Psychoaesthetics refer to the language of the artist as applied to the treatment process. It is asserted that in the therapeutic communicative structure, the expression of the aesthetic takes place both within a particular modality and in the patient-therapist relationship. It is further argued that emotional, cognitive, and aesthetic learning ultimately take place within the same space and that they are connective parts of the same structure.
