Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) as a primary psychotherapeutic approach |
Journal/Book: Music Therapy Perspectives. 1988; 5: 69-72.
Abstract: Contends that the technique of GIM has been refined and developed to a point where it now seems plausible that GIM could serve as a complete psychotherapeutic approach. The GIM process is described and contrasted with traditional psychoanalytic or verbal-oriented therapies. It is concluded that GIM in combination with conventional psychotherapy may accelerate the psychological healing of clients and shorten the duration of therapeutic treatment as currently practiced. ABSTRACT 2: The purpose of this article is to demonstrate how Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) could function as a complete psychotherapeutic approach in and of itself. The basic process of GIM is described and contrasted with traditional psychoanalytic or verbal-oriented therapies.
