Abstract: Describes a music group therapy technique that has been used successfully with severely mentally ill prisoners. The technique is based on personal agenda setting; guided listening to preferred music selections, corresponding to the personal agenda; and supportive verbal processing. Professional and personal concerns for the music therapist working in the prison setting are addressed, and the need for psychiatric services in the penal system is emphasized.
