Music Therapy as a Service in Mental Handicap Hospitals

Abstract: This short report describes some of the components of a service that music therapists undertake in the long stay mental handicap institutions in England. It covers a brief description of the focus of work with physically handicapped clients, elderly clients, and severely disturbed agressive clients. The paper gives an indication of some of the aims and purposes of music therapy with these clients, and also describes the input of music therapy in to a childrens service.
